A bike tour is a popular activity for any visitor to Bali. It’s a wonderful way to see the heart and soul of the island and immerse yourself within Balinese culture. I recently did a bike tour with E-Bikes Bali and I loved every minute of it.

A beautiful day to ride around Ubud

I stumbled across E-Bikes Bali on this trip as their route included a visit to the UNESCO World Heritage Site – Tegalalang Rice Terraces. This area is fast becoming one of the most ‘Instagramable‘ spots on the island.

In keeping with the e-bike theme my complimentary pick up from my Ubud hotel was courtesy of an electric car. The car follows the tour for its duration so there’s somewhere to leave your bigger bags allowing you to cycle with ease. Once I reached the office friendly staff set me up with my bike and provided me with water to take along for the ride. There were four others on my tour and two guides so it was a really personable ratio.

Cruising with E-Bikes Bali

Obviously a point of difference with E-Bikes Bali are the bikes themselves. E-bikes are electric bikes and they give the rider the opportunity to pedal as much or as little as they like. In the hot Bali sun this can be a blessing! Whilst I enjoy cycling it was rather nice at the end to open up the speed a little more embracing the breeze as we made our way back to base. The bikes are no harder to ride than a regular one but keep in mind you can go a little faster than if you were pedalling so ride to the conditions.

Stunning day in Ubud

Apart from the scenery a highlight of this tour were the guides. Knowledgeable, funny, dedicated and personable these guys created such a welcoming environment for the tour group.  They were more than happy to take our photos and answer any questions we had.

Learning all about the area and Bali’s rice production

During our tour we stopped several times to admire the rice paddies. It was a beautiful clear day so the contrast of the green earth against the blue sky was stunning. We rode through small villages, down narrow paths and up steep hills. We visited a temple and even got to have a look at some Ogoh-ogoh works in progress for the annual Hindu Nyepi Festival. After arriving at Tegalalang we briefly relaxed for some morning tea. The tiered rice paddies are an incredible sight, the way they weave like ribbon. There was also a short stop at a coffee plantation before ending the tour at a local restaurant. A delicious Indonesian meal and a fresh coconut was well deserved after biking for three hours.

The beautiful scenery

E-Bikes Bali offer free hotel pick up from the Ubud area and can arrange transport from other areas of Bali for you. They offer two tours per day, one in the morning and one in the afternoon. You can find out more regarding the tour program and costs by visiting their website here. I thoroughly enjoyed my time on the tour and would highly recommend you try it on your next holiday in Bali.

I was a guest of E-Bikes Bali on this tour. As always, the opinions are my own.
