The Aminjirah Resort Koh Tao isn’t too far away from the action on the island, but it’s far away enough to indulge in that peaceful island feel.
After visiting Koh Samui and Koh Phangan earlier this year we decided to try the smaller of the three, Koh Tao. Although it wasn’t of interest to us, the island is extremely popular for tourists wanting to learn how to dive. The main stretch of beach has plenty of guesthouses, dive schools, restaurants and bars (with music blaring until the wee hours)
The highlight of a stay at the Aminjirah Resort is its perfectly placed infinity pool. The wow factor is incredible and whether you are blessed with sunshine, watching a storm roll in or catching an amazing sunset, the pool is the place to be.
Located in the North West corner of the island the hotel is located up a pretty steep hill. Aminjirah is actually Sanskrit for “heaven in the clouds.” Walking it about ten times over the course of our stay was a great way to stay fit! It also felt like I was walking up to heaven! For those not keen on the walk the hotel provides a shuttle into Sairee twice a day. Return transfers to the ferry pier are also included in the room rate. Depending on the time of day taxis are around 300-400 baht to get back? If you are wanting to hire a scooter this can be done from the rental shop in front of the hotel. They don’t require a passport for security which is a good thing to keep in mind.
There are 17 rooms at Aminjirah Resort comprising of nine different room types. Each room being individual in its design, layout and view. We were lucky enough to be on the top floor of the Ocean Paradise block which provided us exceptional views over the ocean. It was great watching all the dive boats head out each morning whilst lying in my hammock sipping on a coffee.
Our room was large with a queen bed, air conditioning, fan, fridge, mini bar, toiletries, tea and coffee making facilities, safety box and cable TV. The rooms also come with robes, slippers, umbrellas and separate pool towels. Every afternoon a plate of fresh fruit is delivered to your room for you to enjoy.
The rooms are relatively spread out. Ours was probably the furthest distance from the pool and reception. But to get the best view you’ve got to put in a little effort and it sure was worth it!
We had breakfast at the hotel which included a buffet of hot/cold drinks, fruit, yogurt and cereal plus the option to select a hot choice from the menu. The servings were extremely generous and we were able to substitute items which was great. We also had dinner at the hotel twice which was so lovely having the sunset in the distance. If you’re after a recommendation the Massaman curry was delicious, so full of flavour!
It was easy to be lazy at Aminjirah. The view from the pool (I know I keep talking about it) was so mesmerizing and lying there with a cold drink and mellow beats was a great way to ‘waste’ time!
The staff at Aminjirah were wonderful. Always smiling and eager to help. I’m glad I waited a few days before writing this because we left a charger behind at the hotel. Sure enough it was on the next boat to Koh Samui and back with us on the same day! How good is that?
